Don’t Fuck With Devo

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Hmm…. I love Devo. And I love McDonalds. So…. torn….

Well, I think I have to side with Devo on this one. Bad move, Ronald.

On the other hand, those toys are gonna fetch big bucks on eBay pretty soon…

“I was thrilled,” Rice said of her late-night encounter with Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and bandmates Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer in the executive lounge of the Sheraton Hotel where they signed autographs and handed out backstage passes and T-shirts to her staff. “It was really fun to meet Kiss and Gene Simmons.”

Tom Waits can blow me.

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

So, Tom Waits is doing a tour. Wasn’t his last tour, like, ten minutes ago? It must’ve been, because I remember going, and I remember having a good time. I also remember there being a line about ten miles long, and the show starting about 6 hours late because it took so damn long to process all the fans thru the security procedure.

OK, so once upon a time, a Tom Waits tour was kind of a rare thing, and I could see that it might not be a totally bad idea to try to put a lid on scalper activity. But now he’s back again only two years later, playing a venue several times larger, and check out these hoops you have to jump thru if you want to go:

What: Tom Waits “Glitter and Doom” Tour
When: Saturday, July 5, 8 p.m.
Where: Fox Theatre, Atlanta
How much: Tickets are $67 and $87, plus applicable service fees, on sale starting Friday, May 16, 10 a.m. Eastern time. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.com and by phone at 404.249.6400 only. Tickets are not available at retail locations or the box office. All tickets sold through Ticketmaster will be delivered via Paperless Ticket. Buyers will not receive paper tickets for these events. At the time of entry, buyers must present the credit card used to purchase tickets as well as a valid government-issued photo ID. The entire party must enter the venue at the same time. Tickets are non-transferable. Limit of 2 tickets per order per household. Duplicate orders will be cancelled. For more information visit Ticketmaster.com/tomwaits.

Are you fucking kidding me? I’ll pass.

We finally got the new Pugwash CD 11 Modern Antiquities in stock — hell yeah! If you’re a fan of jangly, melodic guitar rock, this one is for you. Here’s the first single, “Take Me Away”:

What CBGBs Really Stands For

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Remember when The Simpsons used to be funny? I have a vague remembrance. The recent Valentine’s Day episode wherein they riffed on famous love stories was even more jaw droppingly bad than usual– until the third segment. The show took the twisted tale of Sid and Nancy and turned it into divine comedy. Here’s a clip of my favorite moment from the episode Love, Springfieldian Style:

Hey, you try wagging these puppies around a while and see if you don’t have back problems.

This is nothing less than a national tragedy. Get well soon, Dolly!
